CROSS
REFERENCE OF SHOWS TO BM, SR AND MA BOOKS
The gCON
system provides graphic explanation of many of the concepts described in the
books by Joseph K. Berry entitled Beyond Mapping: Concepts, Algorithms, and
Issues in GIS (1993), Spatial Reasoning for Effective GIS (1995), and Map
Analysis: Procedures and Applications in GIS Modeling (in preparation).
the BM and SR books are available from
John Wiley Publishers, www.wiley.com
an online draft version of the MA book is
available at www.innovativegis.com/basis
Note: The presentations in these materials are based on gCON
Version 1.1 developed in the early 1990s using the Professional Map
Analysis Package (pMAP). The
graphical output represents the graphics quality of that period. If you are interested in hands-on
experience with the concepts and procedures described in the slide sets, see
MapCalc Display Types with these materials and the MapCalc
Student (US$21.95) and MapCalc Instructor (US$495)
educational software at www.redhensystems.com.
The MapCalc software
provides the advanced map analysis procedures described in the gCON slide sets for
Windows operating system environments.

The
BM, SR and MA books are based on the Beyond Mapping column by Joseph K.
Berry in GEOWorld Magazine (Adams Business Media publisher). Topics #21 through #31, MA Intro and MA
Epilog recently have been compiled into a draft manuscript for a book entitled Map Analysis: Procedures and Applications
in GIS Modeling (Berry,
in preparation).
Topics
#1 through #10, BM Intro and BM Epilog have been compiled into a book entitled Beyond Mapping: Concepts, Algorithms and
Issues in GIS (Berry, 1993; John Wiley Publishers). Topics #11 through SR#20, SR Intro and SR
Epilog have been compiled into a second book entitled Spatial Reasoning for Effective GIS (Berry, 1995; John
Wiley Publishers).
PC-based
software MapCalcTM provides hands-on exercises and gCONTM
provides digital slide shows on GIS concepts corresponding to the material
presented in the column and books.
